About the competition

Organized by Desert Barbell and supported by the UAE Powerlifting Committee, the Power Meet follows the IPF classic rules, where athletes compete in the three main compound movements – the squat, bench-press and the deadlift.

There is no qualification criteria – so long as you can perform the three basic movements you are welcome to participate! We celebrate everyone equally, from new comers and beginners to more advanced lifters.

Overall a fun event where you get to be part of an awesome community, enjoy prizes and giveaways from our sponsors and give yourself something to work towards!

The Power Meet will include men’s and woman’s weight categories in line with the IPF classic weight categories:

  • Men: -59kg, -66kg, -74kg, -83kg, -93kg, -105kg, -120kg, 120kg+
  • Woman: -47kg, -52kg, -57kg, -63kg, -72kg, -84kg, 84kg+

What else do you need to know?

  1. NEW RULE: It is required for all UAE residents to have an athlete card issued by the UAE Bodybuilding Federation in order to compete. We will require a copy of your Emirates ID and a photo in order to prepare this. The cost is AED210 and is payable to the federation before the meet or on the day. The card is valid for 2 years so you will be covered for the next 4 Power Meets, or any other sport event in the UAE.
  2. The Power Meet is a tested meet. Athletes will be tested at random by the sports authority. Testing will be done for PEDs (Performance Enhancing Drugs). By singing up, you agree to these terms. In accordance with best practice, no less than 10% of athletes will be tested
  3. While we follow classic IPF rules, this event is not sanctioned by any federation. Our goal is to create a platform for everyone to enjoy the sport of Powerlifting. Please note! If you are a licensed lifter for any federation, including IPF, you are not permitted to participate in this meet. The Power Meet is strictly for non-licensed lifters.
  4. The Power Meet is supported by the UAEPC and the UAEBBF who support us to regulate the meet. Officials are provided by the UAEPC.

As a new federal rule, ALL UAE Residents are required to have an athlete card issued by the UAE Bodybuilding Federation in order to participate in the Power Meet. In doing so, you will become a registered athlete in the UAE. The card is valid for 2 years, so you will be covered for at least the next 4 events, or any other sports events you want to participate in the UAE. The card fee is AED210, payable direct to the Federation. We will ask for a copy of your Emirates ID and an ID photo so that the cards can be prepared and handed to you at the Power Meet. Please be sure to carry AED210 with you to pay upon receiving the card. If you already have the card, this does not apply to you. This fee is only applicable once, and again on renewal after 2 years.

Registrations for the Power Meet are now closed! We have reached the 80 participants cap for the September competition. Please keep checking our social media for updates! And be sure to come down and support the competitors on the day!
