We want to help you lift, learn and live better. We offer coaching services to both members and non-members, and we are able to train you both in-house at Desert Barbell Sports Club or at you a place more convenient to you.

Meet our coaches and trainers
Raised in the far north of Sweden, just below the arctic circle, his athlete “career” started with hockey and football at the age of 6yrs. He started training with weights in the early 90´s. Taking it seriously from the start, Patrik wanted to know more about how the body responds to training and diet so he took his PT degree in 1997 followed an advanced degree same year. He started his physiotherapy education at Umea university 2001 and during his studies he found Powerliftining since there was a great club in the town. Bachelor graduated 2004 and continued with studies on sports nutrition and Ortopedic manual techniques. Started working as a physio 2005.
He did his first powerlifting competition in 2002 and has done more than 50 competitions since then, both bench press only meets and powerlifting. Both disciplines both equipped and classic. He also paved in the medals on local and national championships but the proudest moments have been just recent years, getting bronze medals for the bench press event at both IPF Worlds 2017 as well as the IPF Europeans 2018. Both these in the -105 kg class M1 category (age category 40-50y).
He has trained powerlifters since 2006 and worked in the Swedish Powerlifting Federation, as part of a small group of trainers between 2010-2014, to develop the education system. He was also involved in the anti-doping committee during that time and was head coach for the national team at Europeans 2014 and assistant coach 2013. He was also the head of a regional development team during 5 years, competing with Northern Finland and Norway.
More recently Patrik has been living in Dubai, during this time working as a physio and Strength Coach at Scandinavian Health & Performance, before starting up Desert Barbell.
Hi style of training is very much built around technique and high specificity when it comes to the Powerlifting movements. Fairly high frequency and therefore being able to keep the loads a bit lower than on high intensity regimes. The most influential role models for him are Mike Tuchscherer, Bryce Lewis, Boris Sheiko and Dietmar Wolf. All of them have a great eye for the technical aspects of lifting and each bring different aspects to the table.
The range of lifters he has coached stretches from absolute beginners to IPF world record holders and he finds as much joy in helping both these groups.
With his experience as both lifter and coach in equipped lifting he hopes to see some of the lifters in this region try this art form. It brings a totally different aspect to the training.
Patrik looks forward to managing a great team of coaches at Desert Barbell Sports Club and we will welcome lifters of all form and sizes, regardless of goals and experience.

Following a successful 10 year career in Muay Thai, Alix founded and coached in Hong Kong’s first CrossFit box where he learnt from and trained with several of the best Powerlifting, Olympic Lifting and CrossFit coaches. Later, he brought his skillset to Dubai, combining it with his passion for nutrition and rehabilitation, working alongside the Middle East’s top Physiotherapists at SHP where he was placed to work with many of the clients focused on improving body composition. Alix uses his extensive knowledge and competitive experience to inspire his clients.
Professional and personable, Alix hopes to connect well with his clients, ensuring they learn the key principles of strength training, conditioning and nutrition, allowing them to achieve goals in both performance, body composition and lifestyle change.
Dan has been involved in the fitness industry for over 8 years, having worked with a wide-variety of individuals ranging from the general population to professional athletes. He has handled the strength training/coaching of aspiring rugby players at the academy level and also at the professional level whilst studying for his Masters in the UK. During this time he also gained work experience with the national weightlifting team focusing on drilling perfect technique and speed under heavy loads.
Coaching the sport of powerlifting allows him to apply his extensive scientific knowledge of strength training, his passion for technical mastery and to cultivate the coach-athlete relationship. He draws inspiration from the likes of Mike Tuscherer, Bryce Lewis, Ed Coan, Greg Nuckols and Boris Sheiko along with many more.
